Neal Ardley won't abandon Notts County's out of favour players

Neal Ardley says he will not marginalise Notts County’s out of favour players and assured them that they will still be part of the first-team group.

Young goalkeeper Max Culverwell was the latest player to leave the club on Friday as he sealed a season-long loan move to Quorn who play in the United Counties League Premier Division.

There are still question marks over defender Matt Tootle, midfielder Tom Crawford and right-back Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain who have not been involved in recent weeks either.

With Notts having signed defender Richard Brindley and winger Sean Shields, competition is incredibly fierce at Meadow Lane, but boss Ardley says those not involved will not be left to go stale.

“One or two players have turned down moves in the past and said ‘I’m not sure about going there’,” he said.

“But they need to go and play football. It’s slightly different with the younger lads who you want to gain experience, but even then, jpeops obs are on the line.

“It’s easy to say give youth a chance, but sometimes with the youth you get less know how and they need to learn.

“You’ve got to get the balance right. We are working hard on it.

“At a lot of the clubs people just sideine those players with the 23s, or don’t go anywhere near the first team.

“But we don’t do that. They are in and around the first team.

“We are trying to cater for everybody, but when I was a player, I knew I wanted to play football on Saturday. And if that doesn’t happen players get down and unhappy and we don’t want that for them or the club.”
