Neal Ardley will not go "cap in hand" to Notts County's owners to bolster squad

Neal Ardley says he will not go “cap in hand”to Notts County’s owners to bolster his squad despite seeing two of his key players pick up injuries.

Jim O’Brien looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines as a result of a horrific gash to his leg which was around inches long and sustained in a tackle in Saturday’s victory at Chesterfield.

Notts are also awaiting further news on goalkeeper Sam Slocombe as he also had to be replaced in the first half after tweaking a groin muscle.

But boss  Ardley says those two setbacks will not lead him directly to the transfer market, instead placing faith in the players he already has at his disposal.

“It’s not something I am going to go cap in hand to the owners about,” he said.

“They have put a lot of money into the club and have supported me incredibly in signing a lot of players in a short space of time.

“At times they have probably taken us over budget to do it and then worried about getting players out on loan after.

“We didn’t have Jim for a while and if that’s is the case then it’s just a big blow.”
