Neal Ardley strongly demands Notts County's attacking players take more responsibility

Neal Ardley has urged his attacking players to take more responsibility in front of goal, and says they have to work harder at producing a cutting edge.

The Magpies failed to score for their third successive home game last weekend when they lost 1-0 to 10-man Exeter at Meadow Lane.

Exeter managed to score with their only shot on target, while Notts had 20 attempts with two just forcing Christy Pym into serious action.

Boss Ardley said he told the players after the game the onus is on them to make more decisive runs.

“I told them it’s not by chance that we didn’t press it home with a goal,” he said.

“I said there was not enough people who want to score goals and want to get into the area to score them too.

“We are putting crosses in. We’ve got our two wide players in a front four outside the back post with a full-back behind them.

“You are not going to score there.  They are not 6ft 4in so they are not going to outjump them.

The top five priorities for any new owner of Notts County

“They have to make runs across the front and in the box. The ball then might come to them.

“They’ve got to want to score more goals and take more responsibility.

“We’ve got to work harder at that. It’s been all season and is why we are where we are.”
