Neal Ardley set to give some Notts County players a rest in FA Trophy clash against Dagenham

Neal Ardley admits he will give some of his players a breather when Notts County face Dagenham this weekend.

A place in the third round of the FA Trophy is at stake with both clubs hoping to continue their journey to the Wembley arch.

After a brilliant Christmas period, Notts go into the game on a terrific run which has seen them  unbeaten in eight games.

But having endured a hectic schedule, Ardley says that he will allow some players a breather with the National League still very much a priority.

Sean Shields, Dion Kelly-Evans and Richard Brindley will all come into contention, but Pierce Bird (cup-tied), Ben Turner, Regan Booty and Jim O'Brien are out.

“One or two will come in because some players need a breather,” he said.

“Sean Shields has trained all week so he’s in contention, and Dion Kelly-Evans and Richard Brindley are both over niggles and fighting for the right-back spot.

“Pierce Bird is ineligible because he played in the competition for Boston and Jim O’Brien, Ben Turner and Regan Booty remain out with injuries. We can’t say when they’ll be back yet."
