Neal Ardley says Notts County takeover must happen quickly

Neal Ardley says the sale of Notts County must happen quickly if the club is to prepare properly for its maiden season outside the Football League.

The Magpies lost their battle for survival at the weekend as they were beaten 3-1 by Swindon, which condemned them to non-league football for the first time in their 157-year history.

But Notts’ future is still unclear with a takeover from a South African consortium still to be confirmed, although it is expected to be completed in the middle of May.

Ardley says there can be no room for a delay if the club is to plan for next season and fears it could put them behind other clubs who are already looking to recruit players.

Alan Hardy, a 'poisonous' atmosphere and a financial nightmare - where did it all go wrong for Notts County?

And the Magpies warned that there was a huge rebuilding job needing to be undertaken at Meadow Lane which could last a year.

“I don’t think it’s right to talk about my future because I am hurting at the moment,” he said.

“There is so much uncertainty and nobody knows who is taking over, when they are taking over and what their plans are.

“There are so many questions and the answers are not going to come out in the next week or 10 days.

“That’s the next step. To build for the future you need to plan.

“If a takeover is still going on at the end of May, then you are behind a lot of teams who are recruiting and things like that.

“These next two months, six months, a year is going to be a tough rebuilding job.

“The quicker everything gets sorted the better.”
