Neal Ardley reveals referee comments after Notts County's penalty drama at Dagenham

Neal Ardley felt his side should have been given a penalty in their clash against Dagenham but said Notts County’s lack of ruthlessness was just as frustrating.

The Magpies were superb in the first half and created numerous chances with Jake Reeves smashing the upright after just 12 minutes.

But the game was mired in controversy after the break when Kyle Wootton appeared to be bundled over when he was about to tap the ball into an empty net.

Ardley fumed on the touchline and after seeing the incident again said it was clear-cut but said his players should have put the game to bed before that incident.

“It’s a penalty,” he said.

“i said to the referee after the game why on earth does someone go down when they are about to tap the ball in?

“You’d have to be stupid to do that and that’s what happened. He’s had a shove in the back and he’s gone to ground.

“The ref said something didn’t look right.

“What can you do? It’s a moment that changed the game.

“But we have to look at ourselves. We should have been out of sight before half-time.

“When you don’t take your chances you can be on a nervy edge.

“But what I am really pleased about is this was a sort of game you can lose 1-0 and not deserve to.

“We are frustrated because we missed so many chances.”
