Neal Ardley on how he has 'dealt with the elephant in the room' with his Notts County players

Neal Ardley admits he has dealt “with the elephant in the room” with his Notts County players regarding their perilous position but says they have the chance to complete something wonderful.

The Magpies face the biggest game in the club’s history this weekend when they tackle Grimsby at Meadow Lane knowing victory is essential in their fight for survival.

Should they achieve all three points it will take their fight against the drop to the final game of the season next week.

Magpies boss Ardley says he has not shied away from the challenges ahead with his players having addressed them earlier in the week about their situation.

“I’ve had a chat with the group and it was a quite a simple case of dealing with the elephant in the room,” he said.

“There’s no point in ignoring where we are and what the situation is and how everybody is feeling around the club.

“We spoke about it and put it out there and how we are going to deal with it together.

“We are going to have to face pressure and people in football face pressure.

“We are where we are and it’s a chance for us to achieve something fantastic and wonderful come Saturday week.”
