Neal Ardley makes brutal Notts County admission after Aldershot defeat

Neal Ardley said Notts County’s defeat to Aldershot was one of the most disappointing of his three-year reign at Meadow Lane.

The Magpies crashed to a 1-0 defeat at the EBB Stadium where Harrison Panayiotou’s goal in the second half secured all three points for the hosts.

It came from a disastrous period of play as Notts attempted to play out from the back with the striker capitalising on the mistake to rifle in a superb finish.

Notts huffed and puffed and missed two gilt-edged chances both of which were spurned by top scorer Kyle Wootton.

But Magpies boss Ardley, whose side were playing their first game in three weeks after a break due to Covid, said his side had fallen well short of the standard required.

“I am disappointed as I have ever been as Notts County manager with that performance,” he said.

“Even their goal was kamikaze. It’s everything we don’t teach them to do.

“Players have made decisions that have cost us the game.

“If you look at the defeats we’ve had, all of them were in our face and we didn’t stand up to it.

“That’s a worry.”
