Neal Ardley hits out at Notts County's defending in Barnet defeat

Notts County manager Neal Ardley hit out at his side’s defending after Barnet came from behind to win at Meadow Lane.

The Magpies had taken the lead after just nine minutes when Enzio Boldewijn scored a screamer from 25 yards.

But that was wiped out by Callum Reynolds who profited from some poor defending at a set-piece to head in from close range.

Notts saw Kristian Dennis go close to putting them back in front, but it was Simon Akinola who secured Barnet’s win when he clipped past Sam Slocombe.

Reflecting on the game, Ardley said gifting away cheap goals was becoming a source of concern.

“I am very disappointed. We keep giving away poor goals,” he said.

“We’ve tried to build from the back knowing what we needed and we know we are short on options going forward.

“That showed. When you haven’t got those players going forward, you need to keep clean sheets at the back and not give away poor goals.

“I’d rather them score a worldie and we score a scrappy goal because it’s annoying conceding cheap goals.

“We’ve worked hard on bringing in bigger players. We will sit down with the boys and work on it. These things decide games.

“We’ve taken the lead in two games and not hold been able to hold on to it. That’s not good enough either.”
