Neal Ardley hails Notts County's win at AFC Fylde as 'the best of the season'

Neal Ardley hailed  Notts County’s  hard-fought victory at AFC Fylde as their best win of the season as the Magpies surged back into the National League playoff places.

Adam Long’s second-half header secured all three points after Jordan Williams’ long-range strike had cancelled out Enzio Boldewijn’s clever free-kick.

The result lifted Notts back into the top seven on a night in which Fylde’s surface caused problems for both teams in their attempt to play possession football.

But Magpies boss Ardley was thrilled with the spirit his side demonstrated and felt the manner in which they achieved their win was their best of the campaign so far.

"I said to the players that it may not feel like it to the fans or the press, but I think that’s our best win of the season,” he said.

“I really do. It was virtually impossible for both teams to play football.

“They played 4-4-2 and tried to turn it into the channels which was their way of dealing with it.

“We had to do very similar. We had to show real character, we had to dig in and wait for that moment.

“And for me that’s the most satisfying win of the season.”
