Neal Ardley hails Notts County owners over deal for ex-Newcastle winger Callum Roberts

Notts County manager Neal Ardley has hailed the club’s owners for moving swiftly to bring star winger  Callum Roberts to Meadow Lane.

The former Newcastle player  has been a superb addition to the squad since the Magpies paid a nominal fee to secure his signature from Blyth Spartans in January.

Roberts has hit three goals and registered three assists in what has been a remarkable start to his career at the Magpies.

Ardley admitted the winger had been on his radar last summer, but he was brought to his attention again by the club’s recruitment team at the turn of the year.

Originally, the Magpies boss believed it would be a signing for next season, but says the owners the Reedtz brothers were happy to do a deal ahead of schedule.

“He was a player that was mentioned last season,” Ardley told fans on a web chat for Nottinghamshire Live today.

“But it was our recruitment team that brought him to our attention not long before we signed him.

“At the time I thought we were looking at him for next season.

“But the owners were brilliant. They wanted to sign him this season which was fantastic for me.”
