Neal Ardley glad days of fire-fighting at Notts County are over

Neal Ardley is glad the days of fire-fighting at Notts County are over and is relishing being able to coach his philosophy this season.

The Magpies boss has done an excellent job of guiding the club to seventh in the National League table having built an entire new squad at the end of last season's relegation from the EFL.

Ardley admits the majority of last term was spent trying to cater for an overblown squad of players and trying to keep the club from losing its EFL status.

But with the squad vastly reduced in number this time around, the Magpies boss feels that is making his job much more rewarding.

“There is enjoyment and that comes from getting a new lease of life this season,” he said.

“You could never do any development work last time round because everything was about trying to get a performance on a Saturday.

“There were so many players to take care of and cater for that it made training tough, whereas now we are spending more time with individuals and are able to coach them.

“We’re enjoying watching games back because there’s a philosophy, and we can see where we’re getting it right and wrong.

“Last year we were scrapping, but now everything has a theme and it’s enjoyable to work in the way we are.”
