Neal Ardley gives update on Notts County striker search

Neal Ardley will press ahead with his attempts to sign a bustling centre forward for Notts County as he looks to bolster his attack.

The Magpies boss says he is working hard to identify a target man who can stand up to the physical rigours of the National League, but concedes they can prove costly.

With Nathan Tyson injured and Kristian Dennis coming back from a calf problem, Notts are short of a big centre forward.

But Ardley says he is looking at the options currently available, but admits no deal is on the horizon just yet after admitting he is still working on putting a squad together.

“We are working on it,” he said.

“You speak to people and you say you want a number nine or a target man, they will all say ‘don’t we all’.

“We are looking at various options, but in the coming weeks or days, we might be able to evolve the squad bit by bit.

“Normally I know when things are close and I wouldn’t say we are close.

“We are working hard to identify one that would help us but they come at a premium, and they want things we haven’t got sometimes.”
