Neal Ardley gives Notts County injury update as they ramp up play-off preparations

Notts County boss Neal Ardley admits the Magpies have suffered a "couple of niggles" as they ramp up their preparations for the play-off semi-final later this month.

The Magpies are back in competitive action on Saturday when they host Dorking Wanderers in a friendly in a game that will be played behind closed doors.

Ardley is hoping to get valuable competitive minutes into his players legs as they look ahead to their semi-final against either Yeovil or Barnet at Meadow Lane on July 25.

The Magpies chief has put his players through their paces in a bid to shake off three months out of action because of the coronavirus pandemic.

And he does admit that the workload has caused one or two players to pick up niggles.

“We had to run the risk of pushing the players hard knowing there may be one or two muscle injuries along the way,” he said.

“That was going to be the best option  rather than trying to get everyone through it without injury and leaving us undercooked when the games come round.

“Touch wood, we’ve had a couple of niggles that have kept a player out for a couple of days here or there, but nothing that is 10 days or two weeks.

“We are focusing on one system, but we are now getting the rotational elements of that system into the players.

“We are working a lot more tactically now to try and get ready for the games.”

Notts will be without left-back Damian McCrory and midfielder Regan Booty tomorrow with both players ruled out of the play-off campaign because of knee and back injuries respectively.

But the club has re-signed Joel Bagan on loan from Cardiff and he is expected to figure against Dorking tomorrow.
