Neal Ardley delighted with Notts County grit in AFC Fylde win

Neal Ardley admitted his Notts County side were not at their best but praised their grit as they secured a 2-0 win over AFC Fylde at Meadow Lane.

The Magpies had taken the lead in the first half when Wes Thomas scored a stunning goal having burst past a challenge before firing high beyond Dan Lavercome.

Fylde grew into the game as it wore on with the game having been held up due to an injury to referee Peter Gibbons.

In front of a crowd of more than 9,000, goalkeeper Sam Slocombe then had to make a smart save to keep Notts ahead when he denied Jordan Williams at his near post.

But Notts ensured they took all three points when Damian McCrory crashed in a header after Pierce Bird flicked on a Regan Booty corner.

Ardley admitted his side were tired after a long week, but was pleased with how they stuck it out to record back to back wins for the first time this season.

“It was all about the win,” he said.

“I didn’t think the performance level was up to where it has been of late.

“But we’ve had conversations before where we’ve played really well and haven’t got the result we deserved.

“You have to give the opposition credit, and not enough managers do it, but I thought they (Fylde) were really good.

“For 30 minutes we were really good, but then we got lethargic.

“From then on we had to dig in and grind out a result.”
