Ndombele starts, Bergwijn out - Tottenham lineups Jose Mourinho should pick vs Man United

The waiting is almost over, Tottenham are ready to return to action.

After three months out Spurs will host Manchester United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Friday night in their first Premier League game back.

And with three months of nothing, there is no form for head coach Jose Mourinho to go on when picking his starting lineup.

He will have a number of decisions to make ahead of kick-off and we asked our writers and Tottenham fans on the football.london desk to name the team they would pick if they were in charge.

Alasdair Gold on the mystery surrounding Giovani Lo Celso

Rob Guest - Tottenham writer

All eyes will be on whether or not Giovani Lo Celso starts against Manchester United.

The classy midfielder was not spotted in either the in-house training friendly or Norwich City game, thus raising question marks over his fitness ahead of the restart.

The Lilywhites lost the battle in the middle of the park last time out at Old Trafford and they cannot afford to do the same again.

It may be wise to put an extra man in there up against the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba, with Oliver Skipp, who was in decent form prior to the break, the man to come in and pay close attention to the Portuguese ace so that he cannot operate and cause damage.

Obviously Lo Celso starts if fit but Moussa Sissoko should be given the nod if the Argentine doesn't make it.

Mourinho also has a decision to make over his squad given there's very little resting time between the United game and the home match against West Ham.

That could see Steven Bergwijn protected ahead of the London derby following his return from injury, with Erik Lamela, who scored against Norwich last week, given a chance from the start.

The good thing for the boss is that he now has two extra substitutes and can shake things up a bit earlier than usual if necessary.

Guest's team: Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Davies; Skipp, Winks, Sissoko; Son, Lamela, Kane.

Lee Wilmot - Live editor and Tottenham fan

It's three months since the last game so it's almost like a clean slate and a new start for some players.

That new start applies to Tanguy Ndombele.

Tottenham's club record signing is clearly a quality player, we've seen it in fits and starts. Now is the time to see it week in and week out.

He deserves his place in the starting lineup, alongside Harry Winks and of course, if he's fit, Giovani Lo Celso in a midfield three for me.

The three-month break also represents a time for Jose Mourinho to pick from a fully-fit squad. And that means Son Heung-min, Steven Bergwijn and Harry Kane playing in a three-pronged attack.

At the back, it's pretty self explanatory I think, with Eric Dier my choice alongside Toby Alderweireld in the heart.

Wilmot's team: Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Davies; Winks, Ndombele, Lo Celso; Bergwijn, Son, Kane.

Now it's time for you to have your say.
