Ndombele and Alli out, Reguilon in - The Tottenham team Jose Mourinho should pick vs Newcastle

There's no rest for Tottenham as they get straight back down to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon against Newcastle United.

Following Thursday evening's 3-1 win over Shkendija in the Europa League, Spurs will be looking to make it four successive wins on the bounce by collecting maximum points against Newcastle United.

Chelsea, Maccabi Haifa and Manchester United are all on the agenda next week, thus meaning Jose Mourinho needs to rotate a number of his squad this weekend.

But who should the boss select against Newcastle?

Does Mourinho opt for both of Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele in his team or just stick with one of them? Has Erik Lamela done enough to keep his place in the side?

We’ve asked our Tottenham writers at football.london to give their thoughts on who should be in the XI. Here is what they had to say:

Alasdair Gold - Tottenham Hotspur correspondent

For Mourinho it's about planning ahead for a mad week of three fixtures in five days but also being aware that they have to beat Newcastle, a team who beat Spurs at home last season.

The Carabao Cup match against Chelsea is just two days later, with the Blues having an extra day to rest.

I think he has to go strong for the match and much depends on whether Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has recovered from a knock that kept him out of the trip to North Macedonia in the week.

Hugo Lloris, Matt Doherty, Eric Dier, Moussa Sissoko, Lucas Moura, Lo Celso and Harry Kane are all likely to come back into the starting line-up.

Mourinho will have to make a decision on Sergio Reguilon on Saturday afternoon after seeing the 23-year-old Spaniard in just two full training sessions with the squad since his return from injury.

Gold's team: (4-2-3-1) Lloris; Doherty, Sanchez, Dier, Reguilon; Sissoko, Hojbjerg; Lucas, Lo Celso, Son; Kane.

Rob Guest - Tottenham Hotspur reporter

Rotation is key this weekend due the amount of games coming up for the team in three competitions next week.

However, the good thing for Spurs at present is that Mourinho can still put out a very strong team even if he makes wholesale changes.

Those on the bench on Thursday evening should all come into the side, with a decision needing to be made over Reguilon after he linked up with his new teammates on the training pitch at Hotspur Way.

Another big call facing Mourinho is whether or not he opts for both Ndombele and Lo Celso in the team or continues to play one for now and leave the other on the bench.

Son Heung-min does need to be given a breather at some point but that may come during the week after playing the full 90 minutes in all four of their games so far.

Guest's team: (4-2-3-1) Lloris; Doherty, Alderweireld, Dier, Reguilon; Hojbjerg, Sissoko; Lucas, Lo Celso, Son; Kane
