Ndamukong Suh to sign 1-year deal with Buccaneers

Ndamukong Suh’s tenure with the Los Angeles Rams has officially ended after just one season. After sitting on the free agent market for almost two months, the defensive tackle is signing with the Buccaneers, starting the next chapter of his career.

He joins Tampa Bay just one day after the Bucs cut veteran Gerald McCoy, clearing a path for Suh to slide in at defensive tackle.

Suh signed a one-year deal worth $14 million last year, taking less money to join the Rams. He nearly accomplished his ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl, coming up just short against the Patriots in Super Bowl LIII.

He finished the season with 59 tackles and 4.5 sacks, batting down four passes and making a career-low four tackles for loss. Suh stepped up in the postseason with 1.5 sacks and two tackles for loss, helping shut down the likes of Ezekiel Elliott, Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram.

Last season, Suh played nose tackle and some defensive end, showing excellent versatility up front – something the Rams loved. Rookie Greg Gaines will likely get the first crack at replacing Suh at nose tackle with Michael Brockers remaining at defensive end.

Back in March, the Rams signed Dante Fowler Jr. to an almost identical deal to Suh’s from last year, inking him to a one-year deal worth $14 million. When that transaction came down the wire, it signaled the end of Suh’s time in L.A., given how difficult it was going to be for the Rams to keep both.
