NCT driver came to the rescue of a woman who was being robbed in Chilwell

A woman has praised an NCT driver for coming to the rescue after she was almost robbed at a bus stop.

The victim said she was being "accosted" by a "very intimidating" man demanding that she handed over her phone or money at a bus stop in Derby Road, Chilwell.

Pete Martin was driving his Orange 36 bus at the time and let the woman jump on and get away from the scene free of charge.

The woman, who remains anonymous, said: "A huge thank you to the driver on the Chilwell bus at 6.55am on Derby Road, who let me get on his bus as I was being accosted by a man who wanted my phone or money.

"He was very intimidating and I was extremely scared.

"I wasn't waiting for this particular bus, but I just jumped on extremely upset. I tried to explain to him what was happening and I had no cash for the fare.

"He understood and welcomed me on the bus.

"I dread to think what might have happened, so once again thank you to this very pleasant and understanding driver.

"Hopefully you can identify him and let him know how truly grateful I am."

A spokesman for Nottingham City Transport added: "Our driver Pete - who took part in the half head shave earlier this year for Hayward House with his wife - came to the rescue of a female whilst driving his Orange 36 bus on Derby Road last week.

"Great work, Pete!"
