NCT bus App now has a Dark Mode to help people feel safer when waiting for a bus

Nottingham City Transport have updated their App to make people feel safer while waiting for a bus.

The NCTX App, which many people use to buy tickets and check when the next bus is arriving, now has a new Dark Mode.

The new Dark Mode aims to reduce the feeling of vulnerability that some users can feel when using their phones in the dark at the bus stop.

The bus company hopes that by significantly reducing the brightness of the screen, through switching to the Dark Mode, it will be less obvious to others that travellers are using a mobile phone.

Dark Mode also reduces screen glare in low light conditions, helping users who suffer from eye fatigue.

The additional contrast also makes the app easier to use for customers with longer-term sight issues as well as saving battery.

Anthony Carver-Smith, NCT marketing manager said: “Hot off the news that the NCTX Buses app has ranked highest of all bus apps in the country, we’re excited to release the first of several enhancements over the next year.

"With the clocks going back this weekend bringing darker nights, the reduction in screen brightness not only helps with eye fatigue, but also helps customers feel safer using their smartphones in the dark.”
