NCAA Tournament simulation has Ohio State basketball making deep run

The NCAA men’s basketball Tournament may have been canceled due to measures to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, but that hasn’t stopped some from trying to figure out what would have happened.

Using the last bracket projections released by CBS Sports’ famed bracketologist Jerry Palm, a computer simulation by Sportsline declared a winner for every matchup from the First Four, through the Sweet Sixteen, and into the Final Four and eventual national champion.

You, of course, are here because you’re curious how far Ohio State made it. You have questions and we have answers — sort of. According to the simulation, the Buckeyes won their first matchup against Yale in the first round, then took out No. 4 seed Butler to make the Sweet Sixteen.

Unfortunately though, that’s when OSU ran into No. 1 seed Baylor and couldn’t get it done. It’s virtual NCAA Tournament run came to an end against the Bears.

But who won the whole thing? The simulation advanced a Final Four team of Dayton, Duke, Gonzaga, and Florida State. In those matchups, The Flyers got by the Blue Devils, and the ‘Zags took down the Seminoles. Then, believe it or not, the Dayton Flyers nudged Gonzaga to win it all.

It might be an unlikely champion to many, but those that know anything about the game this year understand how talented the Flyers team was this season.

What do you think? Would a Sweet Sixteen appearance have met your expectations for this Ohio State team, or would it have been a disappointment?
