Early on Wednesday morning, we finally received an announcement on the start of the Big Ten Football season. Later on Wednesday, we received a similar announcement, but this time with the start of the NCAA Men’s Basketball season, which will reportedly start on November 25th, the day before Thanksgiving.
Practices will also start later than usual, with a date of October 14 reported by Andy Katz.
Michigan State Basketball was originally set to host Oakland in East Lansing to open the 2020 season in a game that would’ve likely started near the end of November.
D-1 Council: Start date of college basketball season: Nov. 25; Start of practice: Oct. 14; Max number of games: 27 (reduced by 4); Minimum number of games: 13; No scrimmages/exhibitions. Recommendation for minimum 4 non-conference. Video breakdown coming w/NCAA SVP Dan Gavitt.

This start date makes a lot of sense and has been rumored for about a month now as it will coincide with a lengthy holiday break for college students, limiting the chance of COVID-19 spreading among teams in competition.
