NCAA finalizes college football six-week return to play plan

It’s looking increasingly and highly probable that we’ll have an on-time start to the college football season this fall, especially after the latest development.

New already circulated that it was about to happen, but Friday the NCAA Division 1 Oversight Committee finalized a six-week practice to play plan that would allow college football to ramp up and start on time. For most schools, that would be September 5.

We’ve discussed this plan at length prior, but it now will simply await a formal vote on July 13 that is expected to be a mere formality — at least according to a report from Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports.

For Ohio State and most other schools, if the timeline remains intact as approved, the timeline would lineup as following:

Tentative Ohio State Football Return to Play Schedule

June 8-July 13: Voluntary summer workouts

July 13-23: Required summer access

July 24-Aug. 6: Summer access with walk-throughs and meetings

Aug. 7-Sept. 5: Preseason practice

Sept. 5: Ohio State vs. Bowling Green
