NCAA extends recruiting dead period through August 31

The NCAA D1 Council has decided to extend the recruiting dead period through August 31 for all sports. The decision was announced Thursday through a statement.

There was hope that the dead period would be lifted after the NCAA approved a six-week return to play practice plan just last week. However, as cases of the novel coronavirus start to rise in this country, that dashed any hopes of opening things up to a more normal state.

This means there is still no in-person contact that will be allowed. Coaches may still call, text, and write, but getting those all-important on-campus visits will still not be permitted until further notice.

According to the release, the full Council and the Council Coordination Committee will continue to review the recruiting dead periods on a regular basis.

There is no change to the six-week return to play practice plan that was approved about a week ago.
