NCAA D1 Council approves college football preseason model

It’s already been in the hopper, but now it is official. A six-week return to play plan for college football had been in the works for some time, but it just got finalized by the NCAA D1 Oversight Committee last week, setting the clock on a wait and see approach for the NCAA D1 Council to approve the plan.

That was scheduled to occur today, Wednesday. Occur it did.

On that note, we have some very good news. The plan has been approved and we can all continue to hope for a return to an on-time start to college football. It was a big, big obstacle now cleared out of the way.

We went to great length to detail the six-week return to play plan and what it means to Ohio State, but the bottom line is that many schools have already begun voluntary workouts and will now look to begin the next set of summer access activities on July 13 for most.

From there, preseason practice is set to begin on August 7, then the first game of the year for Ohio State and most others on Septemeber 5. Programs with earlier starts to the season will adjust the dates of access and workouts earlier according to the timeline.

Off we go. Let’s start all of this heading towards another exciting and on-time start to the 2020 college football season.
