NCAA.com lists Michigan State football as #22 team in preseason rankings

Football season is nearly upon us and the time has come for all Michigan State football fans to eagerly peruse preseason rankings to see where our beloved Spartans have been ranked. Well, the first preseason rankings have started to be released, starting with a favorable ranking from NCAA.com where the Spartans have been ranked #22 in the country by Wayne Staats.

Here is what they had to say about the Spartans:

This team might be in the middle between those double-digit compilers and the just-get-by bowl games that seem to populate Mark Dantonio’s tenure. The Spartans (surprise!) will depend on their defense to keep it in games, but the offense should be markedly improved. A healthy Brian Lewerke makes all the difference.

This ranking is not exactly a surprise, but it’s nice to see that Michigan State is still getting some respect and at least landing in the top-25. As he noted at the end of his statement, if Lewerke is healthy this year, this team could make a big jump. He was injured all last season, even when he played, and it really killed the offense.
