NCAA approves a preseason football model for 2020

College football is closer to coming back after the NCAA approved an official preseason plan for teams to get back on the field during the summer of the COVID-19 pandemic. The NCAA Division 1 council released a statement on Thursday laying out the approved preseason schedule.

It’s not like the NFL preseason with actual exhibition games. Preseason in college means an escalation of workouts and training from the weight room to film study and positional walkthroughs.

For teams who kick off the regular season on Sept. 5th, the preseason program can begin on August 7th. Prior to that date, teams are allowed conditioning and athletically-related activities. Actual full team practices and on-field coaching and implementation starts on August 7. Teams are allowed up to 25 total practices before their first regular-season game.
