The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has defended the recruitment of the daughter of its chief after she completed a master’s degree on an NBTC scholarship.
NBTC secretary general Takorn Tansatith signed the order to recruit Isaree Tantasith on Aug 16 after her six-month probation ended.
On Friday, NBTC human resources director Atchara Punyavanich sent a letter explaining the appointment of Ms Isaree as an operational official attached to the telecommunication law office.
According to the letter, the regulator announced a scholarship for a bachelor’s degree abroad. The awardee must pass a written exam for the King’s scholarships arranged by the Office of the Civil Service Commission. He or she must also pass the interview conducted by the NBTC.
“The successful candidate for this scholarship was announced like those of other scholarships at various levels,” the letter said.
Since Ms Isaree passed the written exam for the scholarship and the interview exam by the NBTC, she had to serve the NBTC for a period not less than twice the time she spent studying on the scholarship, it said.
Ms Isaree graduated with a bachelor’s law degree from the University of Cambridge in England. She finished a master of laws at the Australian National University on the NBTC scholarship.
