NBL hands down sanctions from Melbourne United-South East Melbourne Phoenix melee

Ugly melee mars Melbourne NBL derby.

Melbourne United's Mason Peatling has accepted a one-game suspension and a $375 fine for his role in a melee during his side's loss to South East Melbourne Phoenix on Sunday.

The Phoenix's Mitch Creek — who was bumped by Peatling in the incident that sparked the melee at John Cain Arena — was fined the same amount.

Peatling had taken exception to Creek's celebration after he dunked over his United teammate Matthew Dellavedova.

A scuffle involving several players followed, with Peatling ejected from the game for his role in the incident.

He was charged with unduly rough play and engaging in the melee, but escaped a two-game suspension and heftier fine after entering an early guilty plea.

Creek was also given a reduced fine with an early guilty plea to a charge of engaging in the melee.

Phoenix duo Izayah Le'afa and Kyle Adnam were both fined $375 for the same charge.

United forward David Barlow, for bench clearing during the melee, and assistant coach Justin Schueller, for unsportsmanlike behaviour, received the same fine.

The NBL has also issued fines to four players for their involvement in a melee that marred Saturday night's game between the Kings and Illawarra Hawks in Sydney.

Angus Glover (Kings), Xavier Cooks (Kings), Sam Froling (Hawks) and Justinian Jessup (Hawks) were each fined $375.
