NBC Sports Boston’s Abby Chin to return to cover Celtics in ’20-’21

Boston Celtics fans who have grown accustomed to having NBC Sports sideline reporter Abby Chin as part of their game day coverage will be pleased to hear the popular media figure will be returning to the network in a new role after initially being one of several employees laid off at the end of the 2019-20 NBA season.

Chin, along with co-worker A. Sherrod Blakely stuck around to finish last season, with an uncertain future after. Then Kyle Draper — who initially survived those layoffs — took a job as a play-by-play announcer for the Sacramento Kings, creating an opening Chin applied for and won according to the Boston Globe’s Chad Finn.

The popular sideline reporter received an outpouring of support on her termination, support which may well have influenced the brass of NBC Boston to rehire Chin for the coming season in her new role.

The NBC Sports Boston new hire shared her feelings on that opportunity and hire in Twitter shortly after the news broke.

“It’s hard to put into words how grateful I am right now. I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue to cover the greatest franchise in sports. But, I’m even more grateful for all of you!! The support you’ve shown the last few months has been nothing short of amazing.”

“It’s an honor sharing [Celtics] game nights with you and now we get to do it for one more season. I can’t wait! See you tomorrow night [NBC Sports Boston]!” she added.

We’re glad to have you back, Abby.
