NBA will reportedly make decision on 2019-20 season within 4 weeks

Following a Friday conference call with NBA players, the NBA Players Union and the league office have been communicating over the last few days, with many of the league’s superstars hosting their own call on Monday in an attempt to present a unified front in favor of completing the 2019-20 season.

Although there continues to be momentum toward eventually finding a way to complete the campaign, there hasn’t been much in the realm of a timeframe. At this point, the 2020-21 season may be delayed until December, meaning that the league has not only a long time to potentially complete the current season, but also a long time before it is necessary to determine whether they will or not.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, however, on a recent conference call with the NBA’s Board of Governors, Commissioner Adam Silver indicated that a final decision as to whether to complete the season or cancel it is contemplated as being forthcoming within the next four weeks.

As Charania points out, this is the first time since the league suspended play in March that a timeline has been specified. The league has been working diligently on potential solutions and strategies and has employed NBPA president Chris Paul as well as Russell Westbrook, Jayson Tatum, Kyle Lowry and Dwight Powell to serve on a special panel designed to assist with implementing strategies to help player safely return to the floor.

With pockets of the country beginning to open back up and some NBA team training facilities following suit, it could only be a matter of time before competition returns.

Fortunately, it seems that a final decision — one way or another — will be coming soon.
