Before potentially welcoming Klay Thompson back to the rotation on Sunday at Chase Center, the Golden State Warriors set off for a two-game road swing that started with a contest against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.
To begin their quick road trip, the Warriors were cold as ice.
With Dirk Nowitzki’s No. 41 freshly hanging in the rafters on the night of his jersey retirement, the Mavs easily surged to an 11 point advantage in the first half.
In the third quarter, the Warriors came out swinging to cut into the Mavericks’ lead. However, Golden State couldn’t find the bottom of the net when it mattered most. The Mavericks outscored the Warriors 29-15 in the final frame to secure a victory on Wednesday night, 99-82.
With Steph Curry slumping, the Warriors posted their lowest-scoring performance of the season at only 82 points. The potential Most Valuable Player candidate notched just 14 points on an ugly 5-of-24 shooting from the field with nine rebounds and five assists in 36 minutes. Curry continued to struggle from deep, shooting 1-of-9 from beyond the arc.
Over his last two games, the seven-time All-Star is shooting 8-of-41 from the field and 2-of-19 from the 3-point line,
Outside of Curry, Andrew Wiggins (14) and Gary Payton II (11) were the only members of the Warriors to score in double-figures.
As a team, the Warriors shot a lowly 5-of-28 from long distance against the Mavs. After recording back-to-back games with 39 team assists, the Warriors only recorded 20 dimes on Wednesday in Dallas.
The Warriors won’t have to wait long to respond with the second-leg of a road back-to-back waiting on Thursday in New Orleans.
