NBA Trade Deadline: Lakers ‘not ruled out’ of Kyle Lowry sweepstakes

The 2021 trade deadline could be a complete 180-degree difference from the 2020 trade deadline. The Lakers were quiet last season, electing to play the buyout market. This season, with LeBron James and Anthony Davis both looking at several more weeks away from the floor and the Lakers in the middle of a three-game losing streak, there is much more impetus to get a deal done. Or several deals.

The Lakers have been connected to several players on the potential buyout market after the deadline, but ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski dropped a major name that would certainly boost the Lakers for the immediate future and beyond: Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry. Woj said “don’t rule out” the Lakers in a potential deal for Lowry during ESPN’s Woj & Lowe Trade Deadline Special on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lakers would have to send out significant pieces of their to get Lowry in any trade. Lowry makes $30 million this season and any trade would require the Lakers to aggregate a couple of their higher salaried role players, in addition to a potential young player like Talen Horton-Tucker.
