NBA reporter Shams Charania scooped NFL insiders on 2023 draft night

Thursday was a quiet night for NBA news. Just one playoff was being played, Game 6 of the Celtics-Hawks series in Atlanta — which postponed a Janet Jackson concert.

But one of the sport’s top reporters remained busy anyway.

Shams Charania, one of the NBA’s best-sourced insiders for The Athletic and Stadium, was scooping NFL reporters on draft night, tweeting out some of the top picks minutes before they happened.

Charania broke the news of the Panthers taking Bryce Young No. 1 overall, then C.J. Stroud to the Texans second. He got the third pick right too, sort of. Indeed, Alabama linebacker Will Anderson was selected, but not by the Cardinals. A trade happened and Anderson was shipped to the Texans.

 

 

And this isn’t even the first time he’s done this during the NFL Draft. Charania tweeting about preseason injury or breaking a trade deadline deal, however, might have more NFL fans reacting like this:
