After being resistant earlier in the process to allowing teams to expand their roster beyond what is typically allowed in a playoff scenario, but that has changed in the past few hours as the league is sorting out more details with the player’s association have been leaking out. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the NBA is going to allow teams to bring 17 players, which lets teams bring the typical 15 players, as well as up to two two-way players.
As far as the Lakers are concerned, they have 15 players on their roster already and two two-way players in Kostas Antetkounmpo and Davontae Cacok. There have been plenty of rumors and wonders about whether the Lakers will re-sign DeMarcus Cousins, who they waived to bring on Markieff Morris. If the Lakers are to bring on Cousins, they would still have to waive one of the players on their current 15-man roster.
The decision to expand rosters could also be related to the fact several players have voiced concerns about the bubble environment at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
