NBA free agency: Hayward opts out, Warriors get Oubre after Klay loss

NBA news continues to come in rapidly as the league tries to set their rosters and players try to find new homes before the start of training camp on Dec. 1, ahead of the Dec. 22 tip-off to the season. However, there have been some big developments in the past few days that have changed the league’s outlook and could impact what moves the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to make.

Late on Thursday, Boston’s Gordon Hayward decided to opt-out of the final year of his contract to become a free agent. Hayward instantly becomes one of the top free agents on the market after Anthony Davis, who is expected to re-sign with the Lakers when free agency opens this evening.

In addition to the Hayward news, the Golden State Warriors confirmed their worst fears on Thursday with Klay Thomson’s torn right Achilles tendon. After the Thompson injury, the Warriors made a last-ditch attempt to stay competitive by trading a late future first round pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Kelly Oubre, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
