On Wednesday, the NBA has made a decision to fine Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob for his recent comments regarding Philadelphia 76ers guard Ben Simmons.
The league fined Golden State’s co-executive chairman and CEO $50,000 for violating the NBA’s anti-tampering rule for his comments to The San Francisco Chronicle about Simmons.
Although he didn’t mention him by name, Lacob told the San Francisco Chronicle Simmons “doesn’t really fit” what Golden State is doing when asked about a potential trade for the three-time All-Star.

“In some ways, it doesn’t really fit what we’re doing. He makes a lot of money. And, can he finish games? I don’t know,” Lacob said. “He’s very talented. The problem is: We have Draymond. Draymond and him are very similar in the sense that neither one really shoots and they do a lot of the playmaking. That’s one issue. The salary structure is another.”

Throughout the offseason, the Warriors have been one of the teams linked to Simmons in different rumors and trade chatter. Around the NBA draft, Golden State reportedly turned down Philadelphia’s offer in a trade that included Simmons.
With the season quickly approaching paired with Lacob’s recent remarks, a trade that sends Simmons to the Bay Area seems unlikely.
