NBA fans love DeMarcus Cousins reuniting with Anthony Davis, joining Lakers

The Los Angeles Clippers made big news early Saturday morning, landing free agent Kawhi Leonard and trading for Paul George. But don’t count the other L.A. team out just yet because free agent DeMarcus Cousins has agreed to a one-year deal with the Lakers. The deal was first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and confirmed by USA TODAY Sports.

Joining LeBron James with the Lakers, this means Cousins will also be reunited with Anthony Davis.

As our Charles Curtis pointed out Friday while arguing for this move by the Lakers if they didn’t get Kawhi, Cousins and Davis worked well together when they played for the New Orleans Pelicans before Cousins tore his Achilles and ultimately went to the Golden State Warriors a year ago.

This seems like a great match for Cousins, who said earlier this year he actually still ponders the what-ifs about his relationship with Davis and Rajon Rondo, who is signing a two-year deal with the Lakers, Woj and Ramona Shelburne also reported Saturday.

From a January 2019 story by The Athletic‘s Shams Charania:

“I think about our pairing all the time,” Cousins said. “Me and AD talk about it. It’s [expletive] up. It could’ve been something great, something special, but other people had different things in mind. That’s out of our control, and you never know what’ll happen later on down the line.”

Well, there you go. And NBA fans absolutely loved the idea of Cousins joining LeBron and the Lakers, as well as him reuniting with Davis.
