NBA fans had plenty of jokes about Dwight Howard’s return to the Lakers

The Lakers lost DeMarcus Cousins for the season due to a torn ACL last week, but are set to welcome another former superstar hoping to prove he can still play at a high level. Six years after he walked away from the Lakers following a tumultuous season, Dwight Howard will sign non-guaranteed deal with Los Angeles, which means the Lakers can still decide to cut him before the season starts.

Howard only played nine games in the 2018-19 season for the Wizards, and had surgery in November to address a gluteal injury. The previous year, Howard averaged 16.6 points and 12.5 rebounds for the Hornets in 81 games, but reports emerged that Howard was a very unpopular figure in the Charlotte locker room. By making Howard’s contract non-guaranteed, the Lakers will be able to see if he’s willing to buy into coach Frank Vogel’s system before committing cap space to him.

NBA fans can’t wait to see how the Howard experiment turns out.
