The ever-robotic Kawhi Leonard provided the NBA world with a rare dose of humanity on Tuesday night. After he and the Toronto Raptors tied the series with the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Leonard met with an international reporter, who asked if he had anything to say to Chinese fans.
“Nĭ hăo,” he deadpanned. Hello.
As he walked off, he made sure he’d said it right. He did — or at least said it well enough to get the reporter’s approval. And he was gone. Maybe, just maybe, Leonard isn’t a robot after all.
NBA fans seemed to find Leonard’s interview to be delightful.
But even in a moment when he was trying to be a human, people felt like he still came off as a robot.
