The Pelicans selected Zion Williamson, a freshman from Duke, with the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

The New Orleans Pelicans selected Zion Williamson with the first overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Williamson is the fourth player from Duke to be selected with the No. 1 pick in the draft. He was the consensus national player of the year with the Blue Devils and listed as the top pick in this year’s draft.

Williamson averaged 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.8 blocks in 33 games during the 2018-19 season at Duke. He set the single-game school scoring record for freshmen in January 2019.

He joins the Pelicans’ young core after they traded Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers for Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, the No. 4 pick in the 2019 draft and three future first-round draft picks.

The Pelicans traded the No. 4 pick, the No. 57 pick, Solomon Hill and a future second-round pick to the Atlanta Hawks for the No. 8, No. 17 and No. 35 picks in this year’s draft.
