NBA coronavirus testing: 2 players tested positive for COVID-19 over past week

Though the Oklahoma City Thunder game against the Houston Rockets was suspended Wednesday due to positive coronavirus cases and contact tracing, the number of positive tests had stayed low the week leading up to the night.

Since Dec. 16, two NBA players tested positive, the league announced on Thursday. There were 558 tests during that week.

It was unclear whether the Rockets’ cases were included in this count. The league said there were three Rockets players whose test results were positive or inconclusive late Wednesday afternoon. Additionally, the weekly report is released a day or two after its testing counts end for that time frame, so it may have only included through Tuesday.

Presumably, Rockets wing Ben McLemore, who has been self-quarantining away from the team for multiple days, was one of the two positives.

The two positive cases is in-line with the week prior, when there was one positive case, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

These are decreases from the two weeks before this. The NBA’s first batch came back with 48 positive COVID-19 cases. The count dropped to eight in the second report.
