NBA champion pinpoints Warriors guard as most difficult matchup

Steph Curry is known as the best shooter in NBA history. Yet, the Golden State Warriors guard is also one of the smartest players in the league at moving without the ball. Curry is the ideal movement shooter, never standing still and always running his defender into multiple screens on each possession.

During a recent interview on the Sam Okauru YouTube channel, recent NBA champion Reggie Jackson was asked about his two toughest matchups on the defensive end. It should come as no surprise that Curry was the first player Jackson discussed, noting how the Warriors guard’s off-ball movement is what makes him such a nightmare to guard.

“Two of my toughest matchups (for) my whole career is Steph,” Jackson said. “Everybody (finds it) hard (to guard) Steph. When he plays is usually when everybody takes a break. So when he passes the ball, are you ready? That’s when he’s really starting to get into it. So that’s what makes it tough. Great team. The pace that they play at, the shooting ability, his knowledge for the game makes it tough.”

Jackson also named Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard as his other “toughest matchup,” which should also come as no surprise. Curry will be entering his age-35 season later this year but is still among the more feared players in the NBA. In HoopsHype’s recent player rankings, which solely focused on guards, Curry was ranked second behind Luka Doncic.

With a commitment to moving without the ball and a seemingly limitless shooting range, Warriors fans will be expecting another memorable season from Curry in the upcoming year.
