Although signs continue to point toward the NBA season resuming as soon as July, no official decision has been announced. For the past several weeks, June 1 has been seen as the day by when the league would need to make a decision, one way or another.
On Friday, Commissioner Adam Silver will host a call with the NBA’s Board of Governors, but on a precursor call with the league’s general managers on Thursday, Silver confirmed that Friday’s call wouldn’t include a formal vote on a return-to-play plan. The news comes via ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
At this time, it seems that the league will continue to discuss the circumstances under which it will return to play, including whether all 30 teams will be given an opportunity to qualify for the postseason or not. To this point, there isn’t believed to be a consensus.
Those wishing to see the league return to competition can find solace in the fact that Walt Disney World — the presumptive site for the league’s truncated 2020 playoffs — has announced its plans to reopen on July 11. It is quite probable that the reopening will be a precursor to the league’s completion beginning to take place. That assumes that recent reports are accurate.
