NBA announces League Pass will be free to all fans during hiatus

We are nearly one week from the moment everything changed in the sports world when last Wednesday’s game between the Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder was called off after two-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus. With the NBA bracing for what will be at least a 3-month hiatus, the league is allowing basketball fans everywhere to watch classic games and every game from the 2019-20 season by giving them free access to NBA League Pass. The offer must be redeemed by logging into one’s NBA.com account, according to Wednesday’s press announcement from the league on their official Twitter account. The preview will run for a month until April 22, according to the league.

This week I started our LeBron James NBA Finals Re-Watch diary where I will watch his entire Finals career in chronological order. I just watched Game 3 of the 2007 Finals and you can do the same if you want, now you can even if you didn’t pay for League Pass. Every Finals game from the last 20 years is available and also some classic All-Star Games as well.

The NFL also made a similar offer to fans, making subscriptions to their NFL Game Pass database of past games available to fans for free on NFL.com. However, the NFL should be given credit for being a little more generous with their content, giving fans a free subscription through May. With the return of sports uncertain until we see if social distancing makes an impact on flattening the curve of coronavirus, those who are able to shelter and place and want to watch classic games can do so.
