NBA All-Star: Warriors’ Steph Curry leads Western Conference in first round of voting

After recording one of the best records in the NBA through the first half of the season, members of the Golden State Warriors are getting their respect when it comes to the NBA All-Star game.

In the first round of fan voting for the 2022 All-Star game in Cleveland, four members of the Warriors appeared near the top of the list in the Western Conference.

Most Valuable Player candidate Steph Curry received the most votes in the Western Conference at 2,584,623. If voting ended today, Curry would be one of the captains for the event in February.

Through 35 games, Curry is averaging 26.5 points on 42% shooting from the field with 6.1 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game. Curry leads the NBA with 180 made 3-pointers on the season. If Curry’s lead on the vote holds, 2022 will be his eighth All-Star appearance.

Although he hasn’t suited up for a game this season, Klay Thompson landed at No. 4 in the Western Conference voting for guards with 367,743 votes. Golden State’s injured wing earned more votes than Phoenix guards Devin Booker and Chris Paul, Utah guard Donovan Mitchell and Portland guard Damian Lillard.

In the frontcourt, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins earned top-five spots in voting. If Green is named to the All-Star team, it will be his fourth appearance.

Yet, for Wiggins, 2022 could be his All-Star debut. Through seven seasons, the former No. 1 pick has yet to crack an appearance in the All-Star game. In 2021-22, Wiggins is averaging 19.1 points on 48.9% shooting from the floor with 4.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.

There will be more updates on where the vote stands before the window closes on Jan. 22 at midnight.
