On Tuesday night, the NBA 2K League released an open letter to its community addressing controversy around the player-selection process.

Managing Director Brendan Donohue tweeted this open letter and screenshots to support the league’s position:

Donohue’s letter does provide some additional insight into the analytics tool used to break the field of 72,000 down to 250. Donohue speaks about the advanced statistics that were taken into account when the decisions were made.
The screenshots of the internal discord were added to timestamp the conversation between Cavs Legion general manager Anthony Muraco and Stylez, the two individuals at the center of the controversy. The rejection of more than 70,000 hopefuls was difficult to accept, and clearly, Muraco’s conversation with Stylez was ill-advised, but the league appears to be working hard to preserve its integrity.
The league is off to a rough start with some members of the community doubting the relevance of the Combine, and now this issue added further uneasiness. Perhaps this statement can set most of the concerns at ease.
