On Monday, 2K announced the new cover athletes, release date and the first trailer. You can see all of them here.
We didn’t learn much about the game from this quick preview, but we do know now that 2K will feature WNBA teams and players for the first time ever. Las Vegas Aces’ star A’Ja Wilson is featured in the trailer. The screenshot above and below captures her in both the Aces’ home and away uniforms. Many fans are hoping we’ll also see female MyPlayers, but it doesn’t look as though that’s something that is being teased. Although, no aspect of the MyCareer journey was revealed. We’ll likely have to wait until late August for that information.
The trailer gives us a brief glimpse at New Orleans Pelicans’ rookie and 2019 No. 1 pick Zion Williamson. As you can see from the image below, Williamson’s face isn’t in the trailer, which is probably because he has yet to be officially scanned into the game. 2K likely wanted his presence in the trailer, but without a spot-on likeness, they wouldn’t have wanted to show his face.
However, having his likeness included confirms he will not be the cover athlete for NBA Live 20, or even involved with the game’s promotion. That’s probably worth the partial inclusion.
Kawhi Leonard is represented in the trailer, but he’s wearing a Toronto Raptors uniform. I’m not sure if Leonard stays in Toronto once the NBA free agency scramble settles, but if nothing else, we can look at the screen below as an homage to his amazing 2018-19 season.
We know that Kevin Durant is headed to the Brooklyn Nets, but even he is represented in his Golden State Warriors jersey.
The Los Angeles Lakers’ new dynamic duo is shown embracing below, but until the Anthony Davis trade is made official, it’s unlikely 2K can depict him in a Lakers uniform. That might also have something to do with Davis appearing on the cover with his jersey covered. The backgrounds look fantastic with retired jerseys and seemingly improved lighting.
Lastly, the Legend Edition cover athlete Dwyane Wade is represented with an updated render, although the game doesn’t have the stylish cornrows the future Hall-of-Famer wore in his final season with the Miami Heat.
The NBA 2K20 information has been nonexistent leading up to Monday. Now that July is here, we should see a steady diet of information throughout the month, and then again in August before the September 6 release date on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia once it is released.
