The NBA 2K series has long provided a creation suite that has put most other sports video game series to shame.
There have been some hiccups in the past few years, but in building on last year’s return to form, the NBA 2K20 CAP system is at least as good as it was in last year’s game. This isn’t to be confused with the new MyPlayer Builder which is exclusive to the MyCareer mode.
This CAP system is for modes like Play Now, MyGM, MyLeague and MyLeague Online, though there is some crossover.
In the video below, I look at all of the options:
CAP Suite Remains Mostly The Same
There are a few new nicknames to choose from when creating an offline player. One of the new additions is “Che.” That’s the name of the main character in this year’s MyCareer story. I didn’t see any new hairstyles or new face-sculpting options. However, there are a number of new animations that you can equip your MyPlayer heading into MyCareer.
This year’s game includes the WNBA teams and players. While you can’t create a female player, you can equip the male players with some of the WNBA’s superstar signature moves. Candace Parker and Breanna Stewart are two of the players whose moves were captured, and that you can use to individualize your player.
New Badges And Fewer Ratings
There are a ton of new badges in the game. You can see them all in the video above. Giant Slayer, Deep Hooks, Deep Fades are just a few of them. There are some interesting new personality badges too, such as Media Ringmaster and Warm-Weather Lover.
Those badges are mostly used in the MyGM and MyLeague modes during the offseason to humanize the player movement components. Some of the new badges pay homage to some of the NBA’s greatest players, such as Worm and Dream Shaker.
Huskier Builds
Perhaps we have New Orleans Pelicans No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson to thank for this, but it appears 2K has given players access to a new, huskier build. I jacked up my created player to 350 pounds, and it resulted in a noticeably heavier character.
While I was happy to see the diversity, the build still wasn’t accurate for the weight. Nevertheless, the vast majority of body types that you’d find in the NBA are easy to make in NBA 2K20.
Still Missing Offline CAP Tattoos
The biggest missing piece in the offline CAP system is tattoos. This has been a void in an otherwise solid portion of the game for years.
There are some technological impediments in adding this into the CAP mix, but there is no question it’s still a significant void considering how big tattoos are when it comes to visual recognition with NBA players.
