Naya Rivera's body will be identified by her dental records after she was found in the lake where she disappeared last week.
The former Glee star, 33, went missing and was presumed dead after vanishing following a boating trip with her four-year-old son Josey on Lake Piru on Wednesday.
In a press conference on Monday police confirmed they had found her body, which has now been taken to the local medical examiner's office for an autopsy and formal identification by dental records.
Investigators said they believe Naya was concealed by the shrubbery before floating to the surface after becoming buoyant during decomposition.
The body looked like it had been in the water for several days, police added.
Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub said: "We are confident the body we found is that of Naya Rivera."
He also said no foul play or suicide was suspected.
Ayub explained that location, physical characteristics and physical condition of the body made them "confident" it was Naya.
Police said Josey saw his mother disappear into the water after she helped him on the boat.
Josey was wearing a life jacket by Naya's life jacket was still in the boat.
He is said to be unharmed and taken into the care of family after being found by authorities.
According to TMZ, Josey's haunting words to authorities were that his mother had "jumped into the water but didn't come back up".
Naya was best known for playing high school cheerleader Santana Lopez in Glee.
